Before the tenure as the Regent of Gianyar came to an end, Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati achieved the first Kebo Iwa Award. It was presented by Sri Karang Buncing Brotherhood and Garbha Nusantara Foundation at Santi Mandala Resort & Spa, Tuesday (Feb 19). “This award is a motivation to do more for the people’s welfare,” said the regent familiarly called Ace Tjok. This artist then added that since his childhood he had admired the figure Kebo Iwa and such admiration increased along with his love and understanding when growing adult. Sacrifice, dedication and services to the archipelago had become a motivation and spirit to dedicate himself to the community. “I have an obsession that has not be realized yet, namely to rename the Jalan Dharma Giri into Jalan Kebo Iwa,” he added.
Committee chairman Prof. Dr. I Gede Mahardika said the conferment of Kebo Iwa Award to Cok Ace was not only because he was the Regent of Gianyar. However, it was based on objective criteria and determined by a team. “As the Regent of Gianyar, Tjok Ace is very concerned about the history, such as making Kebo Iwa the icon of Gianyar town, establishment of Kebo Iwa Monument and composition of Kebo Iwa Dance,” he said. Meanwhile, Made Supatra said the Kebo Iwa Award posed an award given to an individual or group of characters having a great concern for the welfare of society and the character. “Based on recommendation of the assessor team, Tjok Ace is entitled to receive the first award,” he said.
