Waiter Race on Kuta Beach
Visitors to Kuta Beach on Sunday (Oct 14) were amazed with the unique attraction. More than 200 waiters and waitresses were running while carrying a tray containing drinks. Many of them were disqualified because the drink they were carrying spilled. However, some could reach the finish line safely.
It was the atmosphere of competition entitled the Waiter Race held in conjunction with the tenth Kuta Karnival. Participants of the race were the public who had or were working as waiters or waitress at hotel, restaurant or other type of business in Bali. They were released in front of the Segara Temple of Kuta heading northward and got to the area of food festival with a distance of about 2 km.
Participants coming to become the winners were the fastest and whose drink did not spill. “The Waiter Race is a form of spontaneous agenda of the professional organization named the Indonesian Food & Beverage Executive Chef Association (IFBEC) in Bali taking part in the Kuta Karnival as an arena to provide entertainment to tourists,” said I Made Rudika, Chairman of the Kuta Karnival Organizing Committee.
Although it was not the first attraction in the Kuta Karnival, the Waiter Race could give extraordinary vivacity. “Aside from serving as a promotional event, the initiative also serves as a means to strengthen Kuta as a destination of the world,” he concluded. (BTN/015)
