Keramas Beach will host an international surfing competition. Great surfers from 30 countries will participate in the competition taking place for 12 days (Jun 18-29, 2013). It was announced by the Acting Head of Gianyar Government Tourism Office, I Made Oka Wijaya, when making an audience with the Regent of Gianyar, AA Gde Agung Bharata, Friday (May 10).
Oka Wijaya stated that Keramas Beach had pretty good waves and became a favorite for surfers from around the world. With such advantage, the Keramas Beach was frequently made to host international surfing competitions. “The event also serves as a kind of promotion for coastal territories in Gianyar County which is indeed good for water tourist attractions, especially surfing,” he said.
Oka Wijaya also added that to increase tourist arrivals, particularly for non-traditional markets, Gianyar government made cooperation with the Directorate of Central and South Asian Region, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It was in the form of organizing a seminar and familiarization business trip on May 12-15, 2013.
The familiarization trip to local amenities of tourist attractions was followed by 50 participants. They consisted of tour operators and travel writers from various countries of the South and Central Asian regions, such as India and Kazakhstan as well as related agencies in Gianyar. “It takes the theme Marine Tourism and Culture where all the participants are taken to visit some hotels, tourist attractions and potential of the Gianyar region,” he said.
Meanwhile, the representative chairman of the organizing committee for the International Surfing Competition, Brad Cunningham, said the beaches in Gianyar County had great potential to invite a lot of international surfers. “The waves especially on Keramas Beach are very appropriate and good for surfing location,” he said.
