Jatiluwih Defined as World Cultural Heritage
Ultimately, Jatiluwih area was officially designated as a world cultural heritage. It was marked with inauguration of an inscription by Deputy Minister of Education and Culture in charge of Cultural Affairs, Wiendu Nuryanti, accompanied by the Regent of Tabanan, Ni Putu Eka Wiryastuti, and representatives of the UNESCO at Jatiluwih, Monday (Sep 24).
Regent Eka expressed her gratitude as the Jatiluwih was finally established as one of the world cultural heritages. Through this title, she hoped to provide great benefits to communities, especially those in the area of Jatiluwih, and development in Tabanan Regency.
“We are committed to the welfare of farmers, especially in Tabanan. Therefore, to anticipate the obstacles and challenges we establish a governing body at Jatiluwih in order farmers will not only become an icon but can also enjoy the benefits of becoming the world cultural heritage,” she said.
Having a title as one of the world cultural heritages was not easy because there were 33,000 hectares of land to be preserved. To that end, in 2013 the government would subsidy 50 percent of taxes of farmers. Besides, local government would found a regional-owned enterprise which would buy the yields of farmers and then they would be sold so that farmers could more focus on the farming activities. The event was also attended by Deputy Regent Komang Sanjaya, Regional Secretary Nyoman Wirna Ariwangsa, Head of Tabanan Government Tourism Office I Wayan Adnyana, regional working units (SKPD) and representatives of UNESCO.
