Important officials of Toyama Municipality (Japan) visited the Jatiluwih nature tourist attraction. Their presence was not intended to witness the beauty of terraced rice fields, but to socialize the grant aid in the form of eco-friendly hydroelectric power generator to farmers at Subak Jatiluwih.
The presence of Toyama Municipality at Jatiluwih region, Friday (Apr 25), was the fourth time after the signature of the MOU of cooperation with the Tabanan government. Subak Jatiluwih itself has an area of 303 hectares and consists of 7 subgroups, namely the Telabah Gede, Kedamaian, Besi Kalung, Gunung Sari, Gunung Sari Uma Kayu, Uma Dui and Kesambi.
Socialization of Toyama government represented by Takata Koshin was attended by the Head of Tabanan Agriculture Agency Nyoman Budana, Head of Tabanan Livestock Agency Ni Ketut Warsiki, Head of Tabanan Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Made Subagia, representatives of Tabanan Development Planning Board (Bappeda) and Penebel subdistrict head Agus Hendra Manik.
Takata Koshin explained the current visit was aimed to conduct a research to be scheduled in October. Among the subject matter in the studies, there would be water flow, water velocity and the water debit. Therefore, he requested the cooperation and support of the farmers for the smoothness of the research process. “The success of this study lies in the participation of the community. Then, I expect the cooperation of farmers to actively participate in this study,” he hoped.
He also added there were some advantages to be gained if the subak farmers applied the eco-friendly electrical power, such as creating job opportunity, earning additional income as a new tourist attraction, generating green electricity, attracting the younger generation to move the sector of agriculture, producing quality rice and improving the life of farmers. “Many benefits will be gained. But the drawback of this machine is only one, namely the rubbish,” he said.
Chief of Subak Jatiluwih, Nyoman Sutama, said that all farmers fully supported the use of the hydroelectric power generating engine. It could provide maximal benefits for the sustainability of Jatiluwih agriculture. “If this can provide benefits without destroying the beauty of the Jatiluwih area, there is no reason for us to reject it,” he said.
Subdistrict head of Penebel, Agus Hendra Manik, said that he was very happy over the effort made by the Toyama Municipality to promote the agriculture in Tabanan. Moreover, Jatiluwih area itself had become a barometer of the agriculture in Tabanan, even in the world. “Hopefully, any future policy will give top priority to the alignments with the life of farmers and the agricultural sustainability at Jatiluwih,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the Head of Tabanan Agriculture Agency, Nyoman Budana, revealed the visit was still in the exploratory stage. The socialization was not only intended to farmers but also to central government and the UNESCO. “We hope this event can run well and gets the support from all parties. Thus, the agriculture in Tabanan can be more advanced and maintain the title as the rice granary of Bali,” he concluded. (BTN/015)
