Bangli Holds a Distinctive Local Fashion Show

The development of fashionable society of Bangli is rapid, making the typical costume of Bangli very popular. “It drives us as a motivation team of PKK (a women’s program on various aspects of family welfare) of Bangli regency to frequently carry out fashion shows of Bangli’s distinctive costume,” said Mrs. Ni Wayan Rasmik Arnawa, the wife of Bangli’s Regent to Bali Travel News.

She persistently makes an effort to discover and develop the distinctive costume of Bangli through competition activity and fashion shows. Bangli Regency, according to her, has various distinctive costumes as ancestral cultural heritages scattered throughout several villages. For instance, there is typical adolescent or daa-teruna costume that is found at Sukawana Village, Batur. There is also a bridal costume of Pengotan, Batur Village, Bangli Palace and so on. “Costumes mentioned are still preserved at the respective villages,” said Mrs. Arnawa.
Due to the frequent performances of fashion shows and competition, of these distinctive costumes are getting more and more attention. Just come to Bangli, on the occasion of custom and Hindu ceremonies. Several years ago, payas agung and madya (majestic and medium costumes) were only worn by a certain social class society. These days, all social classes wear the costumes.
When wearing this distinctive local costume, one’s appearance takes on a new look. He or she would filled with a quality reminiscent of the reflection of greatness, grandeur and sacred values. Some accessories of these customary costumes for males are fabric (jockstrap), sarong, selang, kris, hibiscus flower and headband, the female costume consists of bancangan, golden ylan-ylang, subeng, tapih (undergarment), sarong and so on.
